Myopia happens when the eye focuses light slightly in front of the retina instead of on it, usually because the eyeball is a little longer than average. Distance vision, such as the board at school or road signs, becomes blurry while reading stays comfortable.
It is usually corrected with spectacles or contact lenses. In children, special lenses can also slow down how quickly myopia progresses, which lowers the risk of eye problems later in life.
Regular examinations matter because a growing eye changes. We recommend a check-up at least once a year for anyone under 18 with myopia.
